Don’t burst my bubble!

OMG!  After spending the weekend in Chicago,  my tank is full in terms of dealing with hoardes of humanity.  Of course, it’s a very large city with masses of people, everywhere.  Lines for everything, unbelievable congestion on the highways on the way to, and in and out of the city.  Once there, we utilized the train in and out of the city center.  Even those were crammed full, this weekend primarily with young, loud, drunk, and “enhanced” teens and twenty something’s attending Lolapalooza.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I remember being one of them, high on life and thrilled to be experiencing the sensory overload of attending a music festival.  Hell, I’m 46 and we still do music festivals ourselves.  But, catching the 11:30 train from Central Station back to our hotel was a lesson in how sardines feel in a can.  Simply getting onto the platform was akin to running with the bulls.  And with 3 kids in tow, it was interesting.  At least they got a true sense of the big city experience.

So I was already trafficked and crowded out.  Then on the way in this morning, major accident, traffic backed up, stop and go, 30 minutes late for work.  Ugh!!!  You have to remember, I live in the country. I commute into a decent sized city for work, but nowhere near the size of Chicago or other major cities.  I’m not really used to this on a daily basis.  My nerves are a bit frayed and I’m kinda tired of going an inch a minute and sitting and waiting.  In that light, of my personal bubble being invaded for 4 straight days now, my songs of the day are:

“Crosstown Traffic” by Jimi Hendrix

and

“Damn, This Traffic Jam” by James Taylor

I’m sure those of you in larger metro areas can appreciate the sentiments.  Good luck keeping your bubbles intact!

  2. I can empathise – I was brought up in Hong Kong. Lots of bubble invasion there!
