52 Card Pick-Up

When I got up this morning, I could tell it was an “off” day.  Kind of an odd feeling.  Sorta blue, but not sad.  Antsy but tired.  Just cattywompus.  My aura was unsettled, like cards flying haphazardly when playing 52 card pick-up.  Insomnia bug bit last night, so little sleep was had.  Probably just my mind flittering about, pondering my dad and kids and work , blah, blah, blah.  Can’t turn it off some nights.  Anyway, it was a near silent drive in, no radio.  Just staring blankly at the road, trying to to focus on what I was doing.  The no music part is unusual for me.  So, with about 15 minutes left in my commute, I dialed up my iPod.  These next few songs are what shuffled through:

“Ventura Highway” by America

“Cradle And All” by Ani DiFranco

“Zydeco Man” by Clifton Chernier

“Glass Onion” by the Beatles

“Lost In A Crowd” by Fantastic Negrito

and

“Pretty Pimpin” by Kurt Vile

It was an odd mix but by the time I got to work, my brain wasn’t processing anything but the rhythm bounding from the speakers.  My feet were tapping, my head was bobbing, and I was singing out of tune.  I came in with a bit of a pep in my step.  Music to the rescue again, kind of re-setting my mood.  All those cards are stacked and shuffled and re-dealt.  Problem solved.
