imageThe day has finally come.  Today is Monday, and the trek north from the gulf coast is underway.  Left this morning before sunrise, awakened by thunder and lightening and the accompanying monsoon.

The weekend was terrific.  Weather perfect, golf was less than perfect.  But, a bad day of golf is better than a good day of work.  Beach was amazing, as usual, with big wave action, for this coast at least, thanks to off-shore storms.  Many stories were written, to be re-told for years to come.  Whenever we, and there are usually 5 of us but only 3 could make it, get together, it’s as if we are transported immediately into being the idiot 20 year olds we were when we met.  This certainly was the case this trip.  Of course, we neglect to recall that we’re all in our forties now, leading to slower recoveries and aches that we never knew existed 25 years ago.

I’m very blessed to have these friends, close friends, that have become a part of my fabric over my adult years.  We aren’t always together, some being in Texas, Chicago, and Colorado, but when we are?  It’s never dull.  I’ll just leave it at that.

Now that we have started the journey home, though, I can reflect a bit while looking over some incriminating photos that are somehow in focus, even though this photographer rarely was.  I almost guilted myself into not doing this trip.  And, as is usually the case, I’m glad that I came.  I’m glad we had our usual hilarity, inside jokes, new tales of near fights and strangers ending up on our couch and floor.  Losing, and finding shoes, one of us ricocheting a golf ball off a tree right into his chest (I nearly pissed myself on that one), one of us disappearing for several hours only to find out he’d hooked up with a divorcee met at a beach bar (it wasn’t me, and he’s single, by the way), etc.  Fun was had my friends, fun was had.

But I’m ready to be home.  I haven’t seen my wife and boys for nearly five days, not counting a late night FaceTime with my wife one night, but that’s another story.  Anyway, I’ve missed them terribly and, even though its hard to say goodbye to a friend I only see a couple times a year, I’m ready to be back where I belong.  With my little family.  In honor of being apart, then desperately looking forward to being reunited, and perfectly ironically on a Monday, my song of the day is:

“Come Monday” by Jimmy Buffet
