They say its your birthday…

I’ve been a bit busy today, and I haven’t had much time to get to this.  But, there are a couple of significant birthdays in music today.

On this day, in 1954, Stevie Ray Vaughan was born.  I’ve made a post or two about Stevie Ray in the past, so I won’t bore you with more details.  Lets just say he was one of the greatest guitarists, of any genre, of all-time.  He is renowned, admired, and missed.  Happy Birthday, Stevie Ray.  May you rest in peace.

Another birthday boy today is Lindsey Buckingham, born on this date in 1947.  He is well-known as a songwriter, singer, and masterful guitarist for one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Fleetwood Mac.  Just like Stevie Ray, Buckingham never took guitar lessons and couldn’t read music, yet became a rock icon.

It’s amazing to me that with no formal training a person could master an instrument and write lyrics so well as these two legendary musicians.  It’s simply an innate, born-with talent with some artists I guess.  Oh how I’d love to be one of them.  Oh well.  So Happy B’day to the both of you and thanks for blessing us with terrific music!

My songs of the day include what I think is the prettiest song by Stevie Ray and a hidden gem from Lindsey Buckingham:

“Riviera Paradise” by Stevie Ray Vaughan

“Big Love” by Fleetwood Mac

“Couldn’t Stand The Weather” by Stevie Ray Vaughan

“Trouble” by Lindsey Buckingham

“Little Wing” by Stevie Ray Vaughan

“Frozen Love” by Buckingham Nicks

  3. I had a friend in high school that was talented like that without any formal training. He was killed when he was 19 and I always wonder if he would’ve made it big if was still alive!

  4. And who knew Lindsay Buckingham looked that good, hello?! 😉 I like them both a lot – even Lindsay’s 80’s hit “Go Insane,” but think I might be the only one. Interesting timing reading this because I’m on the beach near their hometown. Seems very appropriate somehow!
