Does that clicking your heels thing work?

I’ve made it known here unequivocally:  I DO NOT like ending a trip.  I don’t like leaving, the arduous journey home, and the first few days back trying to get back into the swing of things.  The reasons for this disdain are numerous, and I’m certain I’m not alone in this.  Generally speaking, the thing I dislike the most about ending a trip is replacing the freedom and free spiritedness with have-to’s and schedules, setting aside adventures and new experiences and trudging back into the mundane and day-to-day.  And for those of us with severe and long-standing cases of wanderlust, returning to the daily grind is nearly physical-illness inducing.

That said, the thing that’s got a burr in my ass this time is coming back to a shit storm at work.  I was only gone 2 days, but you’d think I was off for a month (I should be so lucky).  Pissed patients, bitchy co-workers, emails not answered, evals not faxed to Case Managers, and a snarky, snippy, troll-like Regional Rehab Manager who’s had someone unceremoniously piss in her Wheaties.  It sucks, and to be jumped from the moment I walked in the door is enough to send me to the relative shelter of my tinted windowed vehicle for lunch.  No food, just the radio and the bitch session that’s being typed as I …type.

It never ceases to amaze me just how quickly the tide turns.  We just had a terrific long weekend.  Lots of great food and drink, boats, the Gulf, laughs, pics, and memories.  It was a good vibe kinda trip, and I woke this morning tired but at ease.  Then BAM!  Back to reality.  Ugh!!!  I just want to go back to the beach!

My songs of the day are:

“Beach Side” by Kings of Leon

“Holiday” by Jimmy Buffet

“Bring Me Some Water” by Melissa Etheridge

“A Pirate Looks At Forty” by Jimmy Buffet

“Bubble Toes” by Jack Johnson

  1. When’s the next vacation? 😛

    • Not for s one time, unfortunately! Likely January. One bad thing about having kids is that our travel abilities are now dictated by school schedules. The long dark ages of winter are now about to descend upon us like a ton of unpleasant freezing cold bricks. Let the daydreaming commence!

    • Guess there’s a reason it’s called “work” and not “jolly fun time”. Eh, no biggie, just irritating to walk into that stuff right off the bat. Love my job but sheesh! 😃

  4. My sympathies SOB. Hard in those moments not to flip them the finger and walk out the door. Christmas isn’t too far away…or I guess your Thanksgiving will be here soon?
