Just keep digging

Ya ever try to dig a hole at the beach?  If you have kids, or were one yourself, I’m sure you’ve struggled to go deeper and deeper, building that mote around  your palace in the sand.  Yet, repetitively and repeatedly, wave after wave rolls in, high tide taking its toll on your toil.  It feels as though you’re exerting more energy than necessary, with little or nothing to show for all your effort, as each wave silts your mote, erodes the walls of your castle, and eventually leaves it looking like you’ve never even been there.

Life is kinda like that.  Spinning ones wheels, round and round we go, like a hamster and its endless running in place.  However, life, much like the sea, has an ebb and a flow.   The tide may be in right now, crashing wave after wave onto your creation.  Eroding it, washing it away, and flattening its former footprint.  Tides recede though.  Waves decrease in size and intensity.  Castles can be built on solid foundations, and sustain their walls, free of erosion and collapse.

In the ebb and flow that is life, I say, “Just keep digging”.  If one stays at it, builds at the opportune time, and uses sound technique, eventually that castle will stand and protect itself from the whims of the tides.

To my man over at acquiescent72, or anyone else having one of “those” days, I say,”Just Keep Digging”.  That castle will eventually stand.

My songs of the day are:

“Teeth in the Grass” by Iron & Wine

“Do Something” by Macy Gray

“Trampled Under Foot” by Led Zeppelin

“Full Catastrophe of Life” by John Mellancamp

“The Water’s Edge” k.d. Lang & the Siss Boom Bang

      • Also, rocks and shells and driftwood make excellent reinforcements. Man, I’m ready to hang out on the beach and build castles now.

      • I was thinking how much I could do with a billion dollar win. Feed the poor, shelter the homeless, dig wells, give to medical research and animal shelters and set up free daycares and establish scholarships and art programs and crisis lines and free transit and and and… Of course there might be beach villas in it for me and a hundred of my closest friends, too, but MOST of it would be for charity, haha!

  5. Live this! I have been digging away with the same old rusty spoon, but our foundation here is pretty damn solid. It’s a wonderful feeling really…all of this built upon the piles of shit that were thrown at us before. 😉

  6. Oh man I am holding on to that….for every thing we touch, it takes 19 shovel fulls to make it right…the ladies that lived in this house were so frugal that they actually did more harm than good taking the cheapest way out every single time….LOL so we seem to be digging a lot of holes in our scenario, may not be a hole that will change out lives, but its still a frigin hole!!!! good advise for those who are going through a bad day like our friend AQ…. great songs…kat
