Let’s play a little game, ala “Where’s Waldo?”.  In the pic above, see if you can spot my driveway.  Of course, when I say driveway, I use that term loosely.  I should say, see if you can spot my two-ruts-through-a-field that I refer to as a driveway. I jest, as some folks east of us, like the Carolina’s, Virginia, and DC got between 24 and 36″ of snow.  That’s enough to cripple any area, and can become a serious hazard to ones health.  It wasn’t that bad here, but we did get about 14″, and that’s certainly enough to cause major problems.

For us, we were ready.  We’ve lived out here for 16 years now.  In that time, we’ve learned to be prepared.  Plenty of food, generator, plenty of fuel for the generator, and, most importantly, my beat up, rusty, 250,000-mile truck.  Without my baby, we’d be screwed.  It’s not what I drive daily, she gets shitty gas mileage.  She’s not the prettiest or shiniest truck.  She has no bells and whistles.  But she’s saved our asses in terrible weather conditions for years now.  In weather like this, she’s our lifeline, our way to essential needs, or to escape in dire consequences.  Thank God we have her.

Some of y’all asked about pics when talkin’ about this latest snowmageddon.  I didn’t take many yesterday, as conditions were really shitty.  Here’s one from the commute home yesterday afternoon though:

The rest of these are from this morning.  Enjoy, if you live where there’s not any snow currently.  If that’s the case, I’m super jealous.  🙂

Side yard, snow drift about 3′ deep:

Near the end of the driveway, notice creek frozen solid on left:

Our road, creek along left, unlikely to be plowed:

No mail today:

Comin’ back into drive off our road, note the bridge and my van:

Bridge and frozen creek:

Headed back up the hill, about halfway to house:

Ah, home.  Gonna go get warm:

Stay warm everybody.  Be safe out there!

My songs of the day are:

“Flake” by Jack Johnson

“Car Wheels On A Gravel Road” by Lucinda Williams

“Mushaboom” by Feist

“The Long And Winding Road” by The Beatles

“Country Road” by James Taylor

  6. I know it’s a pain to deal with but it certainly makes for beautiful pictures. I hope you’re cozying up to a cup of hot cocoa with the family.
