And they’re off!

Two weeks from today, The Derby will be run.  ‘Round here, that means two weeks of parties, festivals, concerts, bed races, parades, a hot air balloon glow and race, a steamboat race, and a general buzz about town.  The two week onslaught of overindulgence kicks off today, with Thunder.  It’s a day-long event featuring a full-on air show culminating in the largest fireworks display in North America.

We love our little horse race in these parts, nearly as much as we love a good party.  We hear that people from all over the world have parties on the first Saturday in May.  We get it started two weeks ahead of time.  Let the fun begin.

My songs of the day are:

“Break Me Off Some” by John Mellancamp

“All I Wanna Do” by Sheryl Crow

“Red Wine, Mistakes, Mythology” by Jack Johnson

“Bring The Funk” by Ben Harper

“What Is And What Should Never Be” by Led Zeppelin

“Punky Reggae Party” by Bob Marley

“Another Saturday Night” by Cat Stevens

“Get Up Offa That Thing” by Tim O’Brien

  3. Interesting! I never knew there was partying there for two weeks! I think this year I’ll be placing some bets. I’ll have to hit up the racetrack here to place them. I’ve always wanted to try a mint julep.

  9. Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of
this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s challenging to get that “perfect balance” between superb usability and visual appeal.
I must say you’ve done a excellent job with this. Additionally, the blog loads super fast for me
    on Chrome. Excellent Blog!

    • Thanks so much, although I didn’t really do much. I liked that I was able to set my background pic with one of my own and that the background color for text changes based on what photo I use as my primary one for a post. WP does the rest, I suppose. I’m no techie, that’s for sure. Thanks for the kind words and for stopping by.

  14. In 2003, when the company I worked for on the time undertook a full-scale migration from Windows to Linux, users who were not adequately prepared for the change
    complained loudly.
