Thanks a bunch!

Well, I do appreciate it when one of you guys like what I do, whatever that is.  I still haven’t quite figured that one out, by the way.  But, anyway, it’s even more humbling when one of you think of me when passing along awards.  I’m not an “award” collector.  I don’t keep track of them or count them.  But I do appreciate the notion that someone enjoyed my stuff and took the time to mention me.  It’s flattering, and, in some ways, is validating and encouraging.

So, I say “Thanks a bunch!” to my friend at Element Healing for this award.  She has a terrific site and I recommend following her if you’re into Tarot.  She does daily drawings and offers great words of encouragement and advice.  Check her site out.  You wont regret it.

She’s nominated me for the:

This is a fun one, and one I haven’t seen before.  Here’s the particulars:

1. Link back to the person who nominated you.
2. Answer these questions with words AND music.
3. Pass the award to 5 bloggers who inspire you with posts about music.
4. Tag your post with #MWA, for Music&Words Award so that we can all find you down the line.
5. Quote these 5 steps and the award icon in your post. You can display the icon on your sidebar as well.

Here are my questions:

What does music mean to you?

It means an awful lot to me, and I use music as the timeline of my life.  I relate specific songs to certain memories, milestones, good and bad, happy and sad.  I can have a memory from any point in my life come flooding back when I hear the first five notes of a given song.  From childhood, or to what happened yesterday.  It’s like my minds’ Dewey Decimal System.

What is your first music related memory?

I don’t know that it’s a specific memory, or related to a specific event.  I just remember music being on or played all the time when I was a kid.  My parents were products of the 60’s, so music was always integral.  The Beatles, Cream, Zeppelin, Steve Miller, The Eagles, Dylan, Clapton, Jimi, The Godfather, Aretha, John Coltrane, Muddy Waters, and on and on and on.

They were into music and had friends who played, so I don’t really recall a time that music wasn’t around.  They kinda created a monster.

What’s the first album you’ve purchased yourself?

I was 8, and I  had saved my birthday money to buy Rock and Roll All Over by KISS.

November of 76′.  I was hooked on them at the time.  They were so different and I loved it!  Not coincidentally, they were my first concert as well, about 6 months later.

That created another monster.

Whats the latest music you’ve purchased? (No on-line, streaming, or free downloads, I’m talking cash here.)

God Don’t Never Change: The Songs of Blind Willie Johnson.

It’s a compilation of various artists such as Lucinda Williams, Cowboy Junkies, Tom Waits, and The Blind Boys of Alabama, to name a few.  It’s fantastic, and an amazing tribute to one of the blues’ original masters.  Check it out.  You won’t regret it.

What song did you listen to last? (No cheating, come out with the dirty pleasures.)

Well, I have numerous guilty or dirty pleasures in my collection, but today it’s not an embarrassing number.  The last song I listened to  before turning off the car was “Living For Today” by Raul Malo, from his Sinners & Saints album.

There ya’ have it.  I loved this line of questions.  Very fun, and potentially embarrassing.  I know I’m supposed to nominate five other blogs, but I just can’t bring myself to leave any of you fine people out. So, if you like music, and you feel like answering these questions about your potentially embarrassing musical history, please, consider yourself nominated.  I look forward to some of y’all’s answers.  🙂
