Thanks, man!

I have to admit, that although I do so appreciate being recognized by one of y’all, I am still unsure about doing these things.  But, I like the feeling of acceptance, comaraderie, and connection with another.  Being mentioned by a peer and having them recommend that others come check my nonsense out is pretty cool.  It’s validating, if you will.  And, it gives my sometimes lazy ass the motivation to post something too.

Anyway, this one comes from a super cool lady, Lennon, over at Fabulous With Glitches.  If you haven’t visited her site yet, what the hell are you waiting for?  She’s bold, brash, brutally honest, and funny as hell.  So, go…now!  You’ll enjoy.

The one Lennon bestowed upon me is:

Here are the rules:

1. Display the award on your blog.
2. Announce your win with a post and link back to the nominator.
3. Present 6 deserving bloggers with the award.
4. Link your awardees in the post.
5. Write 7 interesting things about you.

Ok, seven interesting things about me?  Not sure how interesting they are, and some of y’all may already know these things, so ignore if you’ve heard these before:

*I was raised a Catholic but I am, and have been for many years, what I refer to as a non-practicing non-denominational.  I’m spiritual but NOT religious.

*I am an avid kayaker.  Like eaten up with it.  I collect them like some collect stamps or matchbooks.  The running count is now five for me and one each for my wife and three boys.  Plus a canoe.  My collection is 3 whitewater ones, a swift water one, and a flat water one.  Much to my delight, the boys’ are getting a bit too big for theirs, which bums me, because they just refuse to quit growing, but it also means I get to buy 3 more soon.  Woot!

*Speaking of collecting stuff, SOME of my other habits of hoarding include old ashtrays with logos or ads on them, cameras, and stickers from our travels.  Oh, the stickers.

I think I may have a problem.

*Speaking of cameras, my most precious material things, that I’d run back to retrieve in the event of rapture, are my photographs, negatives, and cameras themselves.

*I love music.  It’s my timeline, and I do play, a little, guitar.  Of all the thongs i will leave my boys, a love of music is maybe the most important.  Come to think of it, in the event of rapture, the cd’s and vinyl are being saved too.

*I was raised in the city, but now live on a farm.  Been 16 years now, and there’s no going back to town at this point.  I do work in and frequent the city often.  But, if I had to deal with neighbors I believe I’d throttle somebody.  I love cities, and the bigger the better, but couldn’t live in one again.

*Speaking of cities, my favorite is New Orleans.  But the most important one to me, for sentimental reasons, is Chicago.

It’s where I asked my wife out for the first time, where I proposed to her, and where we’ve made countless roadtrips, as one of my best friends lives there.  In fact, when I first met my wife, and became friends, I was just about to move there.

Lets just say my plans suddenly changed.

There ya’ go.  Thanks again, Lennon, for the shout out.  Hope I didn’t bore anyone tears.  I will stick to my policy of not nominating people specifically.  I always feel like it’s chainletteresque, and I don’t know who is or is not award free.  So, if ya’ wanna play along, consider yourself nominated!  And, like I said earlier, if you haven’t visited Lennon, what the fuck are you waiting for?!?  😃

My songs of the day are:

“Vinyl Records” by Todd Snyder

“Jesus Is Coming Soon” by The Cowboy Junkies

“F-stop Blues” by Jack Johnson

“Juniors Farm” by Paul McCartney and Wings

“Jesus Just Left Chicago” by ZZ Top

“Distant Camera” by Neil Young

“Empty Me Out” by Liz Vice

  6. I’ll buy your old kayaks! So jealous of your water time. The stickers are pretty funny, at least you find a way to display! Enjoyed this very much, especially that sweet pic with your wife. Big smiles. 🙂
