It’s that time again, for the Share Your World prompt from Cee’s Photography.  She created the post on Monday, which was Memorial Day here in the US, so this week’s questions are all holiday related.  Y’all likely know the format by now, and if not, go check out Cee’s site linked above.  You won’t regret it.

There is a bit of a difference in format this week, with only 3 questions posed.  Here are Cee’s questions for the week:

Every country in the world has lost men and women in some kind of Armed Forces.  When does your country celebrate or morn their deaths?

I too am in the U.S. and just celebrated Memorial Day this past Monday.  That’s the day we memorialize and honor those who’ve lost their lives in battle.

Large ceremonies at cemeteries, flags flown, and other festivities throughout the country to acknowledge their sacrifice.

That’s the official meaning behind Memorial Day, but it typically marks the unofficial beginning of Summer.  Boating, pools opening, grills in frequent use, etc. all tend to become the norm from the weekend of Memorial Day through the weekend of Labor Day in September.

What is your favorite holiday or holidays?

My favorite holiday has always been Halloween.  It’s not a traditional holiday in terms of getting days off or planning family trips around, but it has decorations, sooooo….

Anyway, I love that time of year anyway, and the creepy, spooky vibe of Halloween combined with the cool crisp temps is always cool.  Of course, there’s candy too, so that’s a big plus.  I just think it’s fun to the Nth degree.  Costumes, cute kids, pranks, the midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show.  What’s not to love?  And I haven’t even mentioned the decorations.  Very cool!

How do you celebrate that holiday?

Well, having three boys, we’ve “done” Halloween up for many years now.  We decorate the house, porch and foyer,

pick out costumes weeks in advance, and, of course, Trick or Treating.  Sometimes three times, between their elementary school and two different grandparents’ place.  For the past few years, we’ve gone to Apalachicola for Halloween, the best Trick or Treating I’ve ever been involved with, and it usually coincided with The Florida Seafood Festival, and accompanying carnival and parade.  They’re on opposite weekends this coming year, so not sure where we will be this October.  The boys are getting to an age where they may not Trick or Treat anymore too, and this was the final year of school Trick or Treating, as they’ll all be in middle school next year.  Time flies.  😕

There ya’ have it for this edition of Share Your World.  I encourage hall to stop by Cee’s site if you haven’t already.  Thanks again, Cee, for hosting.

My my songs of the day are:

“Give Peace A Chance” by John Lennon

“Time Warp” from Rocky Horror Picture Show

“Boo, I’m A Ghost” by Howell Dawdy

    • Oh, absolutely! I still love Halloween to this day. I’ll miss it when my kids aren’t really into it anymore, which is soon. Living out like we do, we don’t get any trick or treaters, so once the boys are too old I guess I’ll have to wait for grandkids. 😃

  2. I love Halloween, too. I especially loved it when I was in college — there we amazing go-all-out parties. It was the best!
