Share Your World-2016 Week 23

It’s a new week, and that means it’s time for the latest installment of the Share Your World prompt from Cee’s Photography.  Her questions are always thought provoking and fun, and this round is no different.  If you’re not familiar with her site, or the format for these prompts, please pay her a visit.  You won’t regret it.

Here are this week’s questions:

What was one of your first moneymaking jobs (other than babysitting or newspaper delivery)?

Well, I did deliver newspapers in my youth.  I hated it, primarily because as an early-into-puberty male, I felt the urge to sleep until 2:00pm.  Getting up at 4:00am was not my thing.  But, the first job I actually got paid for was as an assistant to a beer delivery guy.  Yes, as a 8 or 9 year old, I would help out a friend of my dads.  He would deliver to bars, restaraunts, and mini-marts around Chareslton.  One day a week, he’d let me tag along.  I’d help stack the 6 and 12-packs, help put up displays, and apply price tag stickers. He’d always take me to lunch at a hole in the wall pub for slaw dogs and fries with an ice cold Cheerwine.  At the end of the day, I’d get a $20 bill.  Great memories of him and those days in the truck.

What is your favorite month of the year?

I love May.  I really dig July.  September is important to me, sentimentally.  But, the best month is June.  It’s still Spring-like at times with temps in the 70’s and sunny blue skies layered with fluffy white clouds.

Still cool at night.  A few hot days towards the end.  Pools, beaches, cookouts, convertibles, the lake, the boat.  Then you get the solid thunderstorms and lightning shows.  The humidity isn’t bad yet so we get crystal clear skies at night.  It’s also our anniversary month.  June rocks!

What three things in nature do you find most beautiful?

This is a very, very difficult question to answer.  How can I possibly pick just three things?  If pressed to do so, and in the spirit of playing by house rules, I’ll give it a try:

Dusk and dawn:

The natural and unspoiled coastline of Ocracoke Island:

The impressive stature of the mountains:

List at least five of your favorite spices? (excluding salt and pepper)

Garlic, oregano, sage, basil, and…garlic.

Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

From the last week, I’m grateful to have had a week without drama.  It was pretty mellow.  The boys were on their first week of Summer break, and I think even they needed to simply chill.  A day or two of ice cream night and a night at the pool were about it.  So that was kinda nice, ya’ know.

As for what I look forward to in the coming week, it’s having time with my sister-in-law and niece and nephew.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen them, and we get a whole 5 days, starting Wednesday night.

There ya’ have it.  Hope you’ll visit Cee and then decide to play along.

My songs of the day are:

“Sister” by The Black Keys

“Beach Side” by Kings of Leon

“Crying Lightning” by Arctic Monkeys

“Hold On, I’m Comin'” by Sam and Dave

“Sister Golden Hair” by America

“June Hymn” by The Decemberists

“Fire On The Mountain” by The Grateful Dead

“The Swimming Song” by Loudon Wainwright

  2. Garlic. Much use of garlic here. Maybe it’s my Italian half. In fact tonight I’m making this garlic chicken spinach thing… 6-8 cloves of garlic…. Later followed by 6-8 “doses” of Listerine… 😀

  7. You had some great answers today. I loved your musical choices and photos which had your favorite parts of nature. Last but not least, the children in the black and white photo, (your sister in law), with your niece and nephew, I think added to your own made a great group of special people. 🙂
