  1. I could spend hours wandering old graveyards and reading tombstones – so interesting! Hope your Monday isn’t too sucky! πŸ˜€

    • Oh, I know! Cemeteries are pretty cool. We have one here in Louisville that is spectacular, Cave Hill. It’s huge and like a park. Colonel Sanders, Muhammed Ali, any a ton of other luminaries are there. The ones in New Orleans are my faves though. So far so good on Monday not being sucky…but it’s still early. πŸ˜ƒ

      • Oh yeah, I’ve seen photos of the New Orleans cemeteries, they’re above ground! And aren’t some of them in danger of being submerged by encroaching water?

      • Everything in New Orleans is in danger of being submerged. During Katrina, there were casket floating around. But they’ve been there for hundreds of years and seen countless floods.

      • Today is actually the 11th anniversary. Just realized that. πŸ˜•

      • Oh wow. You’re right. It feels like it was just yesterday.

      • Sure does. It was quite the scene. NOLA is in much better shape now, but coastal MS is still struggling. Lots of folks either wouldn’t or couldn’t rebuild. It was like a ghost town for several years in Long Beach, Ocean Springs, Pass Christian, and Bay St Louis. It’s better now, but still nowhere near the way it was. πŸ˜•

      • Its such a shame… All those historic places. People don’t realize how early on that area was settled. Do you ever wonder sometimes though why we fight nature like we do? I mean, the natural course of things would be for the ocean to reclaim those areas over time… I go back and forth with my thinking on it.

      • I do wonder. NOLA especially. Terrible place to build a city technically, but was perfect, strategically. We talk about Ocracoke being under water in time too, just from rising sea levels. It’s fairly inevitable. But humans have been drawn to water forever. We tend to be naive in thinking we are the higher power, but nature rules.

  3. Old graves and graveyards fascinate me… one of the reasons I love living where I live. I’ve taken so many very long drives just to visit old graveyards.
