Time for the initial Share Your World prompt of 2017 from Cee’s Photography.

Here are Cee’s questions for the week:

Would you prefer to receive a unicycle, bicycle, tricycle or motorcycle?

Well, I’d love to have a motorcycle, but with 3 kids and living where we live, my driveway is not exactly Harley-friendly.  It’s not practical.  I HATE having to be “practical”, but, it is what it is.

That said, I still love, and use frequently, my mountain bike.  I love trail riding and our bikes go with us on nearly every trip we take.

What is one thing you’d like to accomplish this year?

All of my big goals for the upcoming year are house related.  It’s time for it to be painted, the ancient septic needs replacing, and our HVAC is nearing the end of its life cycle.  Those are all big, and pricey, but that’s life in a 115-year old farmhouse.

Oh, and travel as much as humanly, and financially, possible.

What was one of the highlights of 2016 for you?

2016 wasn’t necessarily a bad year for us.  No deaths in the family, no financial struggles, we travelled, kids did/doing well in school, plenty of great memories.  All in all, a good year.

But, that said, the thing that sticks out the most is the health scare my father-in-law went through.  It was an odyssey from May through Thanksgiving, both for him and for us. My wife made numerous trips to Apalach during that time, for several days to a week at a time, and two full weeks around Thanksgiving to Gainesville for his surgery.  All were worried, and a lot of scrambling, arranging, and adjusting was necessary.

All ended well, and my FIL feels better than he has in years.  We are all thankful and relieved.  But, that 7 month stretch was the most prominent  event of 2016 for us.

Oh, and the comedy sketch that was our pitiful election process, and ensuing results, were quite significant too.  But, I’m tired of thinking about that.

Would you prefer to fly a kite or fly in a hot air balloon?

Well, I’ve done both, and both are fun. We still fly kites, both at home and when at the beach.  And, being in a hot air balloon is great too, sort of ethereal, and provided a beautiful perspective.  I’d love to try it again.

However, if I could pick one other thing sky-related, I’d pick hang gliding I think.  Never had the chance to do it, but it looks fantastic!

Optional Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

From last week, I’m grateful the holiday season is over.  I’m no Scrooge, but after a month of it, I was ready for a break.

In the coming week, I’m looking forward to being one week closer to Spring.  The high temp today is a balmy 14F.  We are friggin’ freezing!!!

My songs of the day are:

“Obvious Bicycle” by Vampire Weekend

“Cold Arms” by Mumford and Sons

“Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” by Bruce Springsteen

“Cold Cold Man” by Saint Motel

“Cold Turkey” by John Lennon

“Freeze Frame” by J. Geils Band

“One Cold Day” by Lacuna Coil

“Bicycle Race” by Queen

  3. Glad your FIL is feeling better. Hot air balloons are amazing, but I would love to glide too. Hope you get your motorcycle someday. I have a Harley Dyna street Bob that has been neglected this year. Hopefully I get get back out soon. I might have to practice on my bicycle first!

    • My driveway would not be kind to a Harley. It’s not really something I’ve ever seriously considered getting, even though they’re loads of fun. I’m more of an old Scout or CJ7 kinda guy. 😃
