    • Thanks! The Old Diver headstone is on Ocracoke, and is right next to British Cemetery. Both are neat sites. The British Cemetery has 3 sailors from a British ship that was sunk off NC by a U-Boat during the early days of WWII. They were the only bodies recovered from the ship and had washed up on shore at Ocracoke. The piece of land they’re buried in was ceded to England years ago and they have a ceremony once a year to honor them. British diplomats and pomp and circumstance right there at the site. It’s pretty cool.

    • Yeah, that would suck! Or, maybe worse, if you were planning on going in the next couple of weeks. Scramble is on for other plans, I’d think. The folks who live on the island full-time will be fine. They’ve seen a lot worse. 😃

  6. Great photos…I’ve been to that mile marker zero. And your post caused me to break out some Steely Dan. Thanks for a good read.

    • Ha! I’ve heard people criticize Steely Dan in the past, and I have no clue why! Great band. We’ll be at that mile marker in a little over a month, actually. Surprising my wife for her 50th bday. Can’t wait. 👍🏻
