Time for this week’s Share Your World from Ce e’s Photography.

Here are Cee’s questions for the week:

What did you or did not like about the first place you lived without your parents?

Well, the first place I lived without my parents was…interesting.  I was 17 when I graduated high school, and spent my last summer before college on the road.  As soon as I got back that August, two friends and I rented our first apartment.  It was just a few blocks from campus, which was perfect.  I’d be able to bike or walk to class and not have to buy a parking permit.  But, it was above a 24-hour laundromat, with a somewhat…sketchy clientele at all hours of the morning.  Oh, and none of the rooms had a door.  Like, literally.  None.  Well, the bathroom did, but the rooms that were supposed to be bedrooms had no doors.  We had to fashion our own out of sliding doors, like from a camper, or with cardboard.  It was a trip.  It was ok though, we were only there about 4 months anyway.

What is your most favorite smell/scent?

I have lots.  Fresh cut grass, coffee brewing, something yummy baking in the oven, burning wood, marijuana, my grandmothers perfume.  I could go on.  But my two favorite smells are my wife (her hair and her shirts and her pillow, ya’ know?)  and my boys when they were babies.  And after they’d had a bath?  And were asleep on your chest or laying down with one at bedtime?  Oh my god.  Is there anything better than that in the universe?

Would you prefer snowy winters, or not, and why?

Nope.  None for me, thanks.  Because it’s a pain in the ass.  While pretty, on the first day it’s on ground, it’s generally just a thorn in the side.  Plus, it has to be cold to snow, and that sucks too.  😏

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week? Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

Our boys are involved in archery, and they had a qualifying tournament this weekend, to earn a trip to the state tournament.  The team did well, and did qualify.  We’re very proud of them, and it’s been cool to watch them all improve, and that leads me into what I’m appreciative for this week: the coaches.  They’re volunteering their time, sometimes 5-6 hours every Saturday and several nights a week.  They are dedicated to helping these kids both on and off the range.  On their own time.  Stressing the importance of maintaining grades, teamwork, supporting each other, and the benefit of hard work.  I’m definitely grateful for them, and for what they do for thèse kids.

My songs of the day are:

“Apartment Story” by The National

“Smell The Roses” by Roger Waters

“Footprints In The Snow” by Leon Russell

“Apartment” by Young The Giant

“Mine Smell Like Honey” by R.E.M.

“Apartment Song” by The Tragically Hip

“No Snow On The Mountain” by Nada Surf

“Scents And Sounds” by Phish

  1. Snowy winters are highly overrated.

      • Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, where it snowed only twice in the 25 years I lived there, then living eight years in L.A. where it never snows, I was thrilled when I moved to St. Louis. For the first several years I loved the snow, even the few times it was heavy (more than 5 inches in St Louis is considered ‘heavy’). But eventually it became, as you state, a pain in the ass. I now live in Palm Springs, CA, where the only snow I see is up in our local mountains, and that’s OK with me.

  3. I agree with all of your answers. I forgot fresh cut grass, I suppose because I rarely smell ghost anymore, being surrounded by pavement and cement. The no doors apt is what I moved into after the boarding house. It was a tenement three stories with three long rectangular apartments on each side of the building, so nine apts in all with four rooms in a row.LR, BR,K, bathroom had a door. And the babies? No contest

  4. Great story about the first apartment! Oh the things you can tolerate when you’re 17 years old! 😂 I agree on the wonderful smells too – I’d add the specific smell of baking bread to the list. 😋

  5. How about Have A Cigar by Pink Floyd? And That Smell by Lynrd Skynrd (which I seem to spell differently every time I write it). Hmm, gotta be more somewhere–

  6. I’m with you on the smells, I would have to sub my husband for your wife, though.
Fresh washed baby is the best for sure! Especially the sleepy, fresh washed baby.
