Time for this week’s Share Your World from Sparks From A Combustible Mind.

Here are her questions for the week:

For the parents in the crowd:  What would be the absolute worst name you might give your child? If you’re not a parent (I’m not), then what’s the worst name you could give your pet?

Dorcas.  And it’s a real name….and, unbelievably, a female name.  Out where we live, there’s a political sign during election periods that asks us to vote for Dorcas Figg.  That’s a pretty bad name, right there.

What mildly annoying curse might you wish you could curse annoying people with?

Geez, I don’t know.  Maybe a hemorrhoid or instantaneous explosive diarrhea?  I have a good friend who practices voodoo.  I’ll ask her about some stuff and get back to y’all.

What’s the weirdest thing you did as a child?

Not sure.  I wasn’t really a weird kid, just wild.  I’m more likely to have done something really stupid or dangerous as opposed to something weird.

Do you believe things happen for a reason or are random?

I believe it’s a little bit of both.  The universe certainly has an edge of randomness to it, but I also believe in us being led or destined for things at times, whether we realize it or not.

And Finally, in the spirit of New Year’s:   What’s a resolution (if you make them, I don’t) you’re making for the New Year?   How confident are you in keeping it a reasonable amount of time?

I have never been a resolution guy, and if I were, it’d be made on an as needed basis, not simply because it’s January 1st.  To me, one just sets themselves up for disappointment with resolutions.  If you REALLY wanted to start or stop something, you’d have done it long before New Years Day rolled around.  Just saying it out loud or writing it down doesn’t work.  To change, it requires a want-to, a dedication to it, and the resolve to continue with the change.  There’s a reason most resolutions fail: they aren’t ready to be truly committed to it.  Just my opinion though.

My songs of the day are:

”New Resolution” by Heartless Bastards

”A Horse With No Name” by America

”Curse Of The Ride” by Calexico

”Song Of Being A Child” by Van Morrison

”Resolution Time” by Beastie Boys

”My Name Is Prince” by Prince

”A Blessing And A Curse” by Drive-By Truckers

”Mystic Child” by Lou Reed

  1. I agree 100% on your theory about resolutions. I’ve never been one to make them myself – don’t let my proclamation post fool you haha! Those were all things that, like you said, I’ve already started putting into motion before the 1st.

  4. Thanks for Sharing Your World and the great play list! 😀 I think “New Year’s Resolutions” came about more as tradition than usability. And you’re entitled certainly to your opinion. This is YOUR blog! 😉 Good answers as usual!
