Time for this week’s Share Your World from Sparks From A Combustible Mind.

Here are her questions for the week:

Guns?   Are you pro or con?  Explain your point of view.

I’m in favor of being able own guns, yes, for hunting, home protection, and sport shooting, like clay pigeons.  That said, I’m not in favor of concealed weapons, on some yahoo’s hip in line at the grocery store.  It’s not the Wild West anymore.  I think that’s a bit over the top.  And these automatic weapons capable of firing high powered rounds at ridiculous rates?  NO!  These weapons should absolutely not be available to the general public.  Ever.  And while we’re at it, the level of scrutiny for anyone trying to buy a gun should absolutely be thorough.  If you’re doing it legally and have nothing to hide, you shouldn’t be opposed to tighter gun control.

How would your country change if everyone, regardless of age, could vote?

Hahaha!  Even children?  Who knows.  I hate to say it, but kids could likely pick a better candidate than most adults.  Kids generally have pretty good bullshit detectors.

What’s your cure for hiccups?

1. Fill a glass with water and either use a straw or have someone hold the glass.

2. Place each index finger into each ear making sure to have as tight a seal as possible.

3. Guzzle as much water as possible as quickly as possible while maintaining the tight seal in your ears.

Problem solved.

What’s the coldest you’ve ever been?

Hmm.  Not sure.  Attending a wedding north of Detroit on Valentine’s weekend.  Doing Eskimo rolls in…well, pick a river, the New, Ocoee, Gauley, Nantahala.  All cold as ice.  Hitting the pool at the base of Sliding Rock in Pisgah.  Standing on an elevated train station in the Loop, at midnight, in January.

If you would like, share a story, a photo or some thoughts on you may be thankful for this week!

Our guys’ archery team performed well enough a couple weeks ago at State to earn a trip to Nationals.

While I can’t say I look forward to a couple more weeks of practices, I’m super proud of all the kids.  They had a great year and and a terrific day at State.

My songs of the day are:

”Cold Cold Cold” by Cage The Elephant

“The National Front Disco” by Morrissey

“Ain’t No Cure For Love” by Leonard Cohen

“Vote ‘Em Out” by Willie Nelson

“Cold Love” by Rainbow Kitten Surprise

“The National Health” by Maximo Park

”To Cure What Ails” by Shakey Graves

”Vote For Me” by Joe Walsh

  3. Thanks for Sharing Your Fascinating World! That hiccup remedy is unique to say the least, and the next time I get them I’ll have to try it. Also thanks for the weekly jukebox selection! Magnificent! Happy Easter! 🙂

  5. Very interesting, especially the one about guns. Here in the UK our gun controls are the amongst the tightest in the world. My husband owned a shotgun which was for the occasional clay pigeon shoot. He did one shoot the crows when they began attacking new lambs that we’d only just put out to grass with the ewes. We lost eleven lambs that year.

Interestingly, as soon as the funeral was over, (my husband’s not the lambs!) Someone from the firearms office arrived to collect/seize his guns. Apparently, they are notified when a license holder dies. Have to say I was very impressed with how the data held on a person is shared between the different departments.

    • Thats part of the problem here in the US. No information is shared between agencies, evidently. It’s just too easy for people to get them here. I’m not in favor of someone coming and taking my shotguns, but I also think it should be a much more thorough process for anyone to purchase one. And these major automatic weapons should not be accessible by anyone. Just my opinion though.

      • I was not licensed to own or use a gun and after my husband’s death I didn’t mind his guns being taken. I imagine it was to prevent the weapons being sold on without trace .
Once the guns were seized by the police I had these choices.
        1. Apply for a license to own guns. 2. Allow the police to take them to a dealer to be officially sold. 3. Allow the police to destroy them. I asked for them to be sold.

  6. This hiccup cure is a new one for me! I’ll have to keep it in mind for when my own fails. Always good to have a backup.
It sounds like we’re pretty aligned on our gun views. Why is it that this sounds so completely reasonable yet some people read it and flip out?!
