Time for this week’s Share Your World from Sparks From A Combustible Mind.

Here are her questions for the week:

Do you think there is such a thing as a ‘gendered’ brain?

I don’t know.  I think people are unique in how they’re wired, regardless of gender.  That said, I suppose there are some instances where women, in general, see things differently than men, in general.  How’s that for non-answer answer?

What is the silliest fear you have?

Not sure if it’s a fear or not, but dolls, to me, are freaky as hell, and there’s no friggin’ way I’d ever have one in my house.  They’re just not right.

Out of your family members, who are you closest to?

Blood family?  My mom.  As an only child and having very few cousins, my options there are limited.  I was really close to my maternal grandfather, but, he’s been gone for 10 years now.

By marriage?  Aside from my wife, of course, I’d say it was my MIL.  Unfortunately, she’s been gone for 10 years as well.  Oddly enough, both she and the grandfather I mentioned previously died within 2 weeks of each other.  That was a rough time.

What is something you’ll NEVER do again?

Eat fresh octopus.  It was moving on my plate, and it’s suckers were sucking all the way down.  It was a bit much.

If you’d like, please share a photo or a comment about something good that’s happened recently!  Thanks!

A little time in New Orleans is NEVER a bad thing!

I don’t live there anymore, but I’m back as often as humanly possible.  The food, the fun, the friends.  Fantastic!  No place like it.  If you haven’t been, what the hell are you waiting for?!?

My songs of the day are:

”Check My Brain” by Alice In Chains

”Goin’ Back To New Orleans” by Dr. John (RIP, by the way.  Lost him just a couple days ago.  He WAS New Orleans.)

”Family” by Dolly Parton

”Automatic Brain” by The Gap Band

”I Wish I Was In New Orleans (In The Ninth Ward)” by Tom Waits

”In Fear Of Fear” by Bauhaus

“The Family” by Nina Simone

  1. Omg – you ate live octopus ? Brace soul – I don’t even like it cooked –
And that must have been hard two weeks with two major losses –
This week is the time I lost my dad about 15 years ago – but thankfully we had a few years to prep for his passing – he almost last away ten years before his death and so that sorta braced is – but never easy – will check out the songs later – and some dolls are truly creepy – lol

    • Hahaha! Yeah, the guy pulled it out the tank it was in and started dicing up the tentacles. They were still moving on the plate. Never again. I’m sorry about your dad, and I know all too well how much those anniversaries suck. Hope you enjoy the music. Check out the video of Dr. John’s second-line tribute. He was beloved there. Quite a tribute. 😊

      • And I actually have joyful anniversaries of his passing – the first year was hard – well the first two weeks were – but sigh with a smile knowing he is likely smiling down on me and we will meet again in heaven – and for me it helps that he was older and we had a born and then all that closure – I once saw a guy on a Chopper that looked like a younger version of my dad – and it was eerie for a second and then I smiled big coz I felt like my dad was likely riding choppers in heaven (but not sure how tired work on streets of gold – but I digress –
        Back to the Octopus!
That exotic food experience sounds incredible

      • I hear ya’. We get signs from my MIL all the time. We were in a Walmart once, and this lady walked past us and my wife and I looked at each other in dismay! She could’ve been her moms twin. It was wild.

As for exotic foods, I’ll try most anything once, but I’ll never do the wiggly octopus thing again. It was too weird, and I wondered if it would cling to my innards! Too freaky. 😃

      • That is soooo freaky!
And willow Nelson (outlaws and angels album) reminds me of my pops

  2. I’m an Only too. Few cousins, as well. As always great answers, with the exception of your dinner.

  3. The dolls they make that are a miniature of your real child?  Yikes!  A horror movie waiting to happen!

  5. Thanks for Sharing Your World and some awesome music (I’m listening to Dr. John right now….♪♪♫♫♪♪♪ 😀 …. it’s a good thing you have all boys, because little girls need them some dollies, but I agree with you…some dolls are just THAT creepy. I’d recommend that you never see the original “Toy Story”, because what that nasty kid next door got up to with his sister’s dolls was nothing short of evil. The doll head atop that eight legged metal construct was enough to give me nightmares. Bleah! Did they even kill that octopus before giving it to you to eat? If it moved on MY plate? It’d have gotten sent back. Ugh. 😛

    • Hahaha! Thanks! I’ve seen Toy Story, multiple times, of course. Yeah, that kid was a little shit. I guess the octopus didn’t survive having its tentacles removed, but they sure were lively on the plate…and going down. Enjoy Dr. John. He was one of the best. 😊
